Since we have our fancy new missionary webpage, and since we're not really experiencing any dramatic movement on that front, anyway, I thought I'd try to discipline myself to do a little blogging on a front we are experiencing movement on: our family. And since today was Dave's first day back at work and, thus, the first day of the next 9 months, this seems like a way for me to get into the spirit of the back-to-school season. (Anyone who follows our blog for missions, but doesn't particularly care about our personal lives is heretofore formally invited to break the followship.)
It seems auspicious that I should begin this today, since we gave Opal her first real food today, and that's all I'll end up writing about, anyway. Food, I mean. She'd previously snatched popsicles out of my hand, and had sucked on large pieces of fruit, but this was her first real chemically processed, dehydrated oatmeal flakes that we reconstituted with breast milk. Mmm...lucky girl. She gagged a little, but I found that she swallowed more when I left the spoon in her mouth longer with each bite. Makes sense that she has a better idea of what to do with something with a little resistance.
I'll put up pics tomorrow. Tonight I'm busy writing Dave's students' names on laminated strips of writing paper. How would you pronounce Loniya? Or Me'Kyah? Or Danajie? Or Laureano? Or Nalauni? I can guess at Jelky, Ja'shon, and Damichael. Not sure about Shahied.
